506Set of 57 – Stone carvers’ chisels w/ note attributed to being from Brownstone Quarry. The Brownstone Quarry was an important 18th & 19th century quarry located in Dauphin Co. near present day Hummelstown, Pa. A railway system was established to move the stones to market. The quarry was a prime supplier of sandstone & cut-sandstone to many cities such as Baltimore, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and stone from this quarry was used in building of Dauphin Co. Courthouse. The chisels are various stone cutting chisels, and are signed by various makers & re-edging blacksmiths. Strikes include: G. Lafferty, J. Lafferty, S. Lafferty; J. Stevenson; W.X. Bowie; C.
